A big fight is about to happen in Westeros.
The first peek at season two of HBO’s House of the Dragon was shown on Saturday. It hints at a tough battle between two powerful families: the Targaryens and the Hightowers.
The teaser of House of Dragon season 2 showed familiar faces like Rhaenyra Targaryen, Alicent Hightower, Otto Hightower, and Daemon Targaryen. They used to be friends, but things have gotten tense after the dramatic end to season one.
Season two starts after Rhaenyra’s son, Prince Lucerys “Luke” Velaryon, tragically dies because of Alicent’s son, Prince Aemond. Their dragons fought, causing Luke and his dragon to fall to their deaths.
This made Rhaenyra upset, especially since she also had a heartbreaking miscarriage in the same episode. Even though she wanted peace after her father passed away, her son’s death made her want revenge.
In the teaser of House of Dragon season 2, Princess Rhaenys warns Rhaenyra about the upcoming fight. She says, “The worst war is one within a family,” as scenes of intense battles flash on the screen. “And fighting between dragons is the fiercest of all.”
Alicent, whose son Aegon II became king against King Viserys’ wishes in the season one end, sees things differently as the war unfolds.
“In this war, many will die, and the winner will become king,” she mentions in the teaser. It shows she’s ready for a tough and straightforward approach while advising her son, the new king, during the battle.
On the other hand, her father acknowledges mistakes made after King Viserys passed away, admitting, “We made mistakes in the hours after King Viserys’ death.”
The teaser of season 2 House of the Dragon, first revealed at Brazil’s CCXP convention, gives glimpses of what’s to come in the upcoming season. It shows Daemon seeking revenge in battles, Prince Aemond with ambitions for the Iron Throne, and, of course, plenty of huge dragons.

The Game of Thrones prequel became an instant hit during its fall 2022 premiere, becoming HBO’s most-watched series debut ever, with 9.99 million viewers on HBO and HBO Max combined.
Even before the second episode of the first season aired, HBO had already given the green light for a second season. This series tells the story of the Targaryen house’s downfall, set around 200 years before Daenerys Targaryen’s quest for the throne in Game of Thrones.
The co-creator of the show, Ryan Condal, had shared with Entertainment Weekly that the first season laid the groundwork for an even more intense second season.
“Season 1 was like setting up for an intense and dramatic season to follow,” he explained right after the first season wrapped up. “The reason we took our time with this was to make sure everyone knew who these characters were and the deep history behind them — their fathers, grandfathers — that led to this point where they end up in a civil war against each other.”
The new season is set to premiere in the summer of 2024, as revealed in the latest trailer. And for those wanting to catch up, the entire first season of House of the Dragon is available for streaming on HBOMax.
