Kody Brown had a special understanding with Robyn Brown in their marriage that didn’t involve all his wives.

He mentioned during the Sister Wives: One-on-One special, hosted by Sukanya Krishnan, that he and Robyn had made a promise years ago that if their love faded, they wouldn’t hold each other back, but instead, they’d let each other go.

When Sukanya asked if he had a similar agreement with his first wife, Meri Brown, Kody clarified that he didn’t.

He shared that after establishing this agreement with Robyn, he informed his other wives about it—this openness about allowing anyone who felt like leaving to do so caused some frustration among them. Meri, in particular, expressed annoyance at this approach.

Meri, aged 52, discussed with Sukanya the lack of action from Kody in their marriage. Despite her dedication to keeping their marriage intact, Meri noticed how Kody seemed to cherish it more with Robyn.

Highlighting the distinction between her commitment to Kody Brown and his with Robyn, she mentioned that her former husband stopped loving her. he based this on a specific moment when he told Robyn, “If I stop loving you, don’t keep me hanging,” or something similar, as she recalled.

Meri, expressing her frustrations, recounted Kody’s dialogue with Robyn, where he reaffirmed their agreement:

“That’s the agreement that you and I made, that if I ever felt like that, then I wouldn’t hold you in this place.”

“Their special promise to each other,” she added. “But why didn’t he value me as a person?

Kody’s marriages to Meri, Christine Brown, and Janelle Brown ended within 14 months. Now, only married to Robyn Brown since 2014, their relationship has been through a lot after his three divorces.

Robyn, 45, shared with Sukanya that Kody Brown “tries to” damage their relationship, and she has to “stop him all the time.”

“He argues with me over silly things,” she said tearfully. “We’re on different pages. I’m grieving deeply over what happened to our family, and he’s just angry. He wants to move on, but I can’t.”

Acknowledging that he was causing problems because of his frustration and anger, Kody admitted he was intentionally harming his marriage with Robyn Brown as a way to “punish” himself. He even considered leaving Robyn Brown to further punish himself.

“I imagined leaving Robyn, finding someone else, and then realizing I didn’t love that person. I’d be in love with the woman I left because I couldn’t handle the relationship,” he explained. “It was just anger, embarrassment, and bad behavior.”

Kody Brown continued, “I was dealing with a lot of dark emotions, the temptation that could have ruined my relationship with Robyn. My anger was a turn-off and it scared her.”
